Look up a financial adviser or company

Last updated: 16 January 2026

If you want to make a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) about a financial adviser, you have to lodge your complaint against the company that actually authorised that adviser. Sometimes it can be hard to work out who the right company is. This tool can help.

How to use the search tool

To find the name of the financial advice licensee to complain about:

  • Enter the name of the adviser or the advice company in the search bar above
  • The tool will tell you who the licensee is.

There are only five licensees who were involved with selling Shield and First Guardian. If your adviser is listed twice, it’s because they worked for more than one company during the time Shield and First Guardian were being sold. Choose the licensee your adviser worked for when you switched your super. You will need the licensee’s name for your AFCA complaint. If you can’t find your adviser using this tool or the tool isn’t working for you, contact us.

Making a complaint about an adviser

You can only make a complaint to AFCA about a financial advice company who is licensed to provide financial advice and is an AFCA member. This company is called the ‘financial advice licensee.’ Sometimes a financial advice licensee will allow or ‘authorise’ another company to give advice under their licence. That’s allowed, but the licensee is still responsible if that other company or its employees break the law. AFCA cannot accept a complaint against the wrong person or company. Use this tool to find the right company to complain about to AFCA.

More information about the tool

The information in the search tool below comes from public data collected by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) from financial advice businesses and published on www.data.gov.au. The tool only shows information:

  • for financial advisers and authorised representatives (individuals and companies) who gave advice to people to invest in Shield and First Guardian;
  • for the period from 27 May 2024 to 23 August 2019 (when Shield and First Guardian were available to invest in).

The data in this tool is current as of 2 December 2025, will not be updated and does not include all advisers or all the information about advisers that is available from ASIC. If you want more information, go to ASIC’s Financial Adviser Register or Professional Registers Search.
